Downriver Play Session

Learn the essentials of downriver play with the APEs on July 13, 2024. This intermediate class will challenge students to find more fun lines in rapids and squeeze every drop of play out of a river run.

Taking place on French Broad 9 (conditions permitting), this full-day experience will teach you how to identify and explore more playful opportunities on the river. Topics include combination moves in rapids, combat rolls, surfing, and beginner slice boat techniques. Participants should be comfortable with class III whitewater and have a solid roll.

Required gear: personal flotation device (PFD), whitewater Kayak outfitted with floatation, helmet, spray skirt, paddle, appropriate non-cotton layers (dress to swim), closed-toe river shoes, nose plugs, throw rope, snacks and water.

Suggested gear: sun screen, paddle jacket

Lead Instructor: Trey Moore of the Eddyhopper Workshop is an ACA Instructor Trainer for kayaking and has over a decade’s experience teaching on some of America’s most iconic waterways.
