Tuckasegee Paddle Meetup

  • CJ Harris Access Area 446 North River Road Sylva, NC, 28779 United States (map)
Group of paddlers on a flat water section of the Tuckasegee Gorge.

Get ready for fantastic Class II rapids on the Tuckasegee Gorge. This 5.4-mile paddle is a favorite for whitewater and inflatable kayaks. There are number exciting rapids without major consequences if you swim. You also will have the option to put in before or after the old dam below the CJ Harris Access Area. This is an excellent river section for practicing skills, especially ferries, eddy turns and peel outs. You also will catch a view of the train from the 1993 movie “The Fugitive” with Harrison Ford.

Flowing entirely in western North Carolina, the Tuckasegee River (or “Tuck”) begins near Cashiers and travels for more than 50 miles through Sylva, Dillsboro and Bryson City, ending at Fontana Lake.

HEAD COUNT REQUIRED: To register for this trip, email Joe Poehlmann at jpales19@gmail.com.
